Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 8, 2026

UnyCars ("UnyCars", "we", "us") operates an online platform that connects people looking for automotive services with garages in their area in Québec. We are committed to protecting the personal information you entrust to us, in accordance with Québec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (including the changes introduced by Law 25) and the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how we handle it.

1. Who is responsible for your information

UnyCars is responsible for the personal information collected through the platform. We have designated a Privacy Officer who oversees compliance with applicable privacy laws. You can reach this person using the contact details at the end of this policy.

2. Information we collect

The information we collect depends on whether you use UnyCars as a client submitting a request or as a partner garage ("Pro").

  • Client information: your first name, phone number, email address, and the details of your request (service needed, vehicle make, model and year, postal code, city, availability, and any note you choose to add).
  • Garage (Pro) information: business name, contact email and phone, business address, the postal codes and services you cover, account credentials, and billing information.
  • Payment information: when a garage pays fees, payment is processed by a third-party payment processor. We receive limited billing data (such as the last digits of the card, the billing name, and transaction history), but we never store full card numbers on our servers.
  • Information collected automatically: when you use the platform we may collect technical data such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and approximate location, through cookies and similar technologies.

3. Why we use your information

We use personal information only for the purposes for which it was collected, namely:

  • To match a client's request with garages that cover the relevant area and services.
  • To send a confirmation to clients and notifications to matched garages by email.
  • To allow garages to view and respond to the requests they receive.
  • To bill garages, process their payments, and manage our commercial relationship with them.
  • To operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the platform.
  • To communicate with you about your request, your account, or important changes to the service.
  • To comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.

4. Consent

By submitting a request or creating a Pro account, you consent to the collection and use of your personal information as described in this policy. Clients understand that the information in their request will be shared with the matched garages so they can be contacted directly. You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal and contractual limits, by contacting us — though doing so may prevent us from providing the service.

5. Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the following cases:

  • With matched garages: a client's first name, contact details, and request information are shared with the garages selected to receive the request, so they can contact the client directly. Contact between the client and the garage takes place outside the platform.
  • With service providers who help us operate the platform, such as our hosting and database provider, our transactional email provider, and our payment processor. These providers are bound to use the information only to perform services on our behalf.
  • When required by law, to respond to a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of UnyCars or its users.

6. Payments

Fees charged to garages are handled by a secure third-party payment processor. Card details are transmitted directly to the processor and are governed by its own privacy and security practices. UnyCars does not have access to, and does not store, complete payment card information.

7. How long we keep your information

We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described above or as required by law. Client request data is kept for the time needed to deliver leads to garages and for a reasonable period afterwards to support quality and dispute resolution. Garage account and billing records are kept for the duration of the relationship and the retention period required by tax and accounting rules. When information is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymize it.

8. Where your information is stored

Our platform relies on cloud providers whose servers may be located outside Québec, including elsewhere in Canada or in other countries. When personal information is transferred or stored outside Québec, we take reasonable steps to ensure it receives an adequate level of protection, including through contractual safeguards with our providers.

9. How we protect your information

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, including access controls, encryption in transit, and row-level security on our database so that each garage can only see the requests assigned to it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to notify you and the relevant authorities of any confidentiality incident as required by law.

10. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request the correction of inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated information.
  • Withdraw your consent, or ask us to stop using or to delete your information.
  • Request portability of the computerized personal information you have provided.
  • File a complaint with Québec's Commission d'accès à l'information if you believe your rights have not been respected.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within the timeframe required by law.

11. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for the platform to function (such as keeping garages logged in) and to understand how the platform is used so we can improve it. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies, but some features may not work properly as a result.

12. Minors

The platform is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors without the consent of a person having parental authority.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top indicates the last revision. If we make significant changes, we will take reasonable steps to inform you.

14. Contact

For any question about this policy, or to exercise your rights, you can contact our Privacy Officer at privacy@unycars.ca.
